Polish households increasingly stop paying TV licence fees

In Poland, compliance with the mandatory TV and radio licence fee is falling sharply. While 12.5 million households own a television, only about 4.5 million have a registered receiver and just 2.6 million actually pay the fee that funds public media. The Krajowa Rada Radiofonii i Telewizji (KRRiT) attributes the decline partly to confusing political messages about the licence’s future and notes the lack of effective registration controls. The agency warns that enforcement remains weak, with only a small share of households inspected. A planned increase in the fees will raise the radio licence to 10.80 zł and the television licence to 34.50 zł per month starting January 2027.
