Polish Judge Maciej Nawacki Faces Immunity Lift Over Threats to Lawmaker and Prosecutors

Poland's National Prosecutor's Office has filed a request with the Supreme Court's Disciplinary Chamber to lift the parliamentary immunity of district‑court judge Maciej Nawacki. The move seeks to allow criminal prosecution for two alleged threats.

The first alleged threat was made during a November 2023 meeting of the National Council of the Judiciary, where Nawacki is reported to have told lawmaker Kamila Gasiuk‑Pihowicz that he would "push the law down her throat" and used other abusive language.

The second set of alleged threats was directed at two Wrocław prosecutors handling a separate investigation into a "hate affair". Nawacki warned them that they could face retaliation if the governing party returned to power. Prosecutors intend to charge him under article 224 §2 of the criminal code, which carries up to three years' imprisonment.

The disciplinary filing, submitted on 22 May 2026, is now in the final stage and the Supreme Court is required to rule on the request within fourteen days.
