Polish Marian pilgrimages draw faithful to Lutyńska and Markowice sanctuaries

A walking pilgrimage organized by parish priest Marek Piekarski led a group from Sośnica to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lutyńska, the Healer of the Sick. Participants sang hymns, prayed and, after a several‑kilometre trek, attended Mass before the famed image, which has been associated with miraculous healings since the 17th century and was crowned in 1972 with papal approval.

In Markowice, Bishop Krzysztof Włodarczyk presided over an indulgence ceremony at the Sanctuary of Our Lady Queen of Love and Peace. In his homily he linked the biblical meeting of Mary and Elizabeth to contemporary calls for community, faith and spiritual support, recalling the sanctuary’s history of miracles dating back to 1630 and its role as a pilgrimage centre under various religious orders.

Both events illustrate the ongoing vitality of Marian devotion in Poland, bringing together local communities for prayer, reflection and the celebration of historic religious sites.
