Polish medical professionals oppose National Health Fund sanatorium funding cuts

The Supreme Medical Council has expressed strong opposition to a proposal by the National Health Fund (NFZ) to remove the positive correction coefficient for sanatorium treatment. This mechanism, in place since February 2020, provided a 1.05 multiplier for specific services, including hospital-based sanatorium treatment for children aged 3 to 18 and specialized treatments for adults in mining environments.

Medical professionals express concern that the removal of this coefficient, without a replacement tool to support service quality, will lead to reduced funding for sanatorium care, particularly affecting pediatric services. The NFZ has justified the move by stating that the current legal and economic environment does not necessitate a progressive financial instrument for these services.

In a related development regarding healthcare systemic changes, the government has signaled a delay in reforms concerning physician remuneration. Following discussions with medical representatives, the Ministry of Health has indicated a 12-month grace period for legislation intended to limit doctor earnings, though such laws have not yet reached the Sejm.
