Polish Military to Use EU SAFE Loan for Supercomputer AI Training
Poland’s Cyber Defence Forces plan to purchase high‑performance supercomputers with financing from the EU’s SAFE loan programme. About 5.1 billion PLN (roughly 1.1 billion euros) of the loan will be allocated to cyber technologies, artificial intelligence and electronic warfare, targeting the creation of an isolated environment where the military can train its own large‑language models on classified data. The funding is part of a broader EU mechanism that provides up to 150 billion euros in low‑interest loans, with Poland earmarked for roughly 43.7 billion euros (about 185 billion PLN). The project, overseen by the Centre for AI Implementation within the Cyber Defence Command, will also procure edge‑AI devices and inference platforms to enable real‑time predictions. An associated showcase, the CYBERSEC Expo & Forum, is scheduled for 15‑16 June 2026 in Katowice, where topics such as technological sovereignty and cyber security will be discussed.
