Polish Minister Hennig‑Kloska Announces Pending Permit for Gniezno Lakes Water‑Level Project

Minister of Climate and Environment Paulina Hennig‑Kloska said a key environmental permit for a water‑level restoration project in the Gniezno Lake district is expected within weeks. The low water levels in lakes across the Gniezno, Słupca and Konin areas have raised concerns among residents and businesses that rely on summer tourism. The project involves constructing a pipeline to transfer water from the Ślesiński Canal to the Jóźwin II B brown‑coal mine site, aiming to mitigate further water loss from Lake Powidzkie and Lake Niedzięgiel. Hennig‑Kloska met local entrepreneurs at a resort in Skorzęcin to discuss the plan and indicated that the regional environmental authority in Poznań will likely issue the decision by the end of the summer.
