Polish ministers debate equalising retirement age for childless women

Katarzyna Pełczyńska‑Nałęcz, chair of the Poland 2050 party and minister of funds and regional policy, proposed that women without children should retire at the same age as men – 65 years – while allowing different ages for mothers. She suggested the change could promote fairness for childless women.

Finance minister Andrzej Domański was asked about the proposal and said it generated brief public debate before fading, describing the idea as causing “a bit of fire in the political debate” that soon quieted.

Family, labour and social policy minister Agnieszka Dziemianowicz‑Bąk responded that she is open to discussion but rejects any increase in the retirement age. She emphasized that the current system sets retirement at 60 for women and 65 for men, and she does not see a responsible basis for raising it, stating that “there will be no increase in the retirement age.”
