Polish MIVA launches Saint Christopher’s Week fundraising for missionary transport

From 19 to 26 July Poland marks the 27th nationwide Saint Christopher’s Week, a Catholic charity campaign organized by MIVA to raise funds for vehicles used by missionaries. The central ceremony was held on 19 July at the St John Paul II Sanctuary in Radzymin, with Bishop Marek Ochlak presiding and prayers and blessings offered for drivers and travellers.

MIVA, originally founded in 1927 by German Oblate Paul Schulte, now operates in Poland as the mission‑transport arm of the Polish Episcopal Conference. In 2025 it completed 130 projects in 34 countries, delivering 1 112 transport assets – cars, motorcycles, ambulances, boats and a bus for a special‑needs school in the Democratic Republic of Congo – valued at more than €1.7 million. The donated vehicles support medical evacuation, supply delivery, school transport and evangelisation across Africa, Asia and the Americas.
