Polish mObywatel app users must log in by Aug 5 2026 to refresh certificates

The Polish government will update the security certificates that protect digital documents stored in the mObywatel mobile application. After 5 August 2026 some certificates will expire, which could prevent users from accessing e‑documents such as the electronic ID (e‑Dowód), student cards and other records.

Most users will not need to file a request or install new software; the renewal is performed automatically when they log into the app. However, users who do not log in before the deadline may encounter error messages and will have to follow additional steps to reactivate their documents. Certain documents, for example student IDs, may require a manual refresh after the certificate expires, prompting a notification that directs users to re‑add the document in the app.

Ignoring the update could make later recovery of access more cumbersome, so timely login is advised.
