Polish MPs highlight health issues as cancer fight meets doctors' employment debate
Member of Parliament Katarzyna Piekarska (KO) disclosed that she is undergoing treatment for cancer but affirmed she will not slow her parliamentary work, saying, “Nie zamierzam zwalniać tempa.” She urged greater understanding for patients, noting that those who survive cancer often face obstacles such as credit access and employment discrimination. Piekarska leads a parliamentary team on cancer prevention and serves on several committees, emphasizing the need for societal support for ill citizens.
In a separate parliamentary discussion, President’s Minister Karol Rabenda criticised left‑wing MP Katarzyna Kotula over the proposed amendment to the Act on the Civil Service (PiP) that would affect doctors’ employment contracts. Rabenda told Radio Trójka, “Macie konkretne działania legislacyjne, które są sprzeczne z tym, co pani mówi,” accusing Kotula of hypocrisy on the issue of doctors working under employee contracts versus B2B arrangements. The debate reflects broader tensions over physicians’ salaries and labour conditions in Poland.
Both episodes underscore a heightened focus on health‑related policies within the Sejm, ranging from personal health advocacy to legislative reforms affecting medical professionals.
