Polish municipalities upgrade water meters to remote‑reading systems

The gmina of Śniadowo (Podlaskie region) will replace about 1,700 traditional water meters with remote‑reading units. The project, valued at 2.35 million zł and funded with 1.55 million zł from EU regional funds, also includes installing a UV disinfection lamp at the Wierzbow water‑treatment station and building 17 radio‑reading points to improve water quality and reduce losses.

In the city of Zielona Góra, the municipal water utility has begun fitting 18,000 radio‑enabled meter overlays. The rollout aims to transmit household water consumption data to the central office automatically, with full remote data collection expected within three years. Residents are being advised to verify the identity of installation crews using yellow high‑visibility vests and official identification.

Both initiatives are part of a broader effort in Poland to modernise water‑supply infrastructure, increase operational efficiency and enhance monitoring through digital metering technology.
