Polish officials warn against low‑visibility swimwear as drowning deaths rise

A Polish safety campaign highlights that many swimwear colors blend into water, reducing visibility of swimmers. Influencer Milena Deptuch‑Peszek noted that bright shades remain visible while pastel blues and greens disappear underwater. The campaign advises parents to choose high‑contrast, neon swimwear or add bright accessories for children.

Police statistics show 327 drowning incidents in 2025, with 292 fatalities, including 15 minors. From 1 January to 31 May 2026, 65 people have already drowned in Poland. The most common locations were lakes, followed by rivers and ponds, often in unsupervised areas. Authorities stress that conspicuous swimwear can aid quick rescue and reduce such tragedies.
