Polish PiS politician sparks controversy with Solidarity analogy
A political dispute has emerged within the Polish right wing following comments made by Law and Justice (PiS) MEP Tobiasz Bocheński. During a television appearance, Bocheński addressed the fragmentation of the right, specifically regarding the departure of former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and others from the PiS party.
Bocheński drew an analogy to the Solidarity movement, comparing the current situation to the split between Lech Wałęsa’s Solidarity and Kornel Morawiecki’s Fighting Solidarity (Solidarność Walcząca). He suggested that some politicians are unable to function as part of a single team under Jarosław Kaczyński and instead feel the need to establish their own independent factions.
These remarks drew sharp criticism from members of the Rozwój Plus association. MEP Piotr Müller and other political figures condemned the comments, accusing Bocheński of attacking the memory of the late Kornel Morawiecki, a prominent anti-communist underground leader, for purely political purposes.
