Polish PKP Cargo and CPK sign letter of intent to boost rail freight

PKP Cargo and the state-owned Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK) have signed a non‑binding letter of intent to cooperate on the development of rail freight transport under the Port Polska investment programme. The agreement sets out joint work on market analyses, planning of railway lines, logistics terminals, sidings and intermodal hubs, and the integration of digital solutions into freight operations.

Both parties said the collaboration will allow freight operators’ needs to be addressed from the design stage of new infrastructure, improving capacity, competitiveness and supply‑chain security. CPK President Filip Czernicki highlighted the importance of involving freight carriers early, while PKP Cargo President Zbigniew Prus stressed the potential to enhance intermodal traffic and overall logistics efficiency. The Port Polska programme also includes a new central airport and associated road and rail networks, making it one of Poland’s largest infrastructure projects.

The letter of intent does not create legal obligations but confirms both sides’ willingness to continue dialogue and explore concrete projects as the Port Polska plan progresses.
