Polish police and border guard carry out large‑scale arrests and airport security sweep
Police officers and the Border Guard in Poland conducted a nationwide operation on 8–9 June 2026, targeting nearly 2,000 individuals listed on arrest warrants and 140 foreign nationals staying illegally. Coordinated by the Criminal Office of the Police Headquarters, the effort involved 24,503 officers across the country, including 1,595 in the Kujawsko‑Pomorskie region, where 54 suspects were detained for offences ranging from rape to drug trafficking. The operation also resulted in 16 foreigners being referred to the Border Guard for illegal‑residence violations.
Separately, Border Guard personnel at Katowice‑Pyrzowice Airport intercepted a Polish woman flagged as a fraud suspect during a passenger check for a flight to Antalya. After handing her over to police, officers also dealt with her intoxicated husband, who displayed aggressive behaviour. A subsequently abandoned backpack prompted a safety zone and the evacuation of about 860 passengers, though the bag was found to contain only personal items and posed no danger.
