Polish police dismantle organised traffic‑insurance fraud ring

On 7 July 2026, the Central Bureau of Investigation of the Polish Police (CBŚP) and the Olsztyn District Prosecutor's Office carried out a coordinated operation in the Warmian‑Masurian voivodeship, arresting ten suspects alleged to belong to an organised group that staged fictitious road accidents.

Investigators say the scheme operated since 2017, creating at least 50 fake collisions and submitting forged documentation to multiple insurers. The fraudulent claims resulted in payouts totalling about 500 000 zloty. The alleged leader and partner recruited participants for staged crashes and handled money‑laundering; among those detained was also an insurance‑office employee who issued OC and AC policies for the vehicles used in the fraud.

The detainees face charges of organised crime, fraud, document falsification and money laundering; one was placed in temporary detention. Authorities note that the practice not only harms insurance companies but also raises premiums for honest drivers and poses safety risks on the roads.
