Polish police operation arrests nearly 2,000 fugitives nationwide

On 8–9 June 2026, the Polish National Police, together with the Border Guard, carried out the fifth edition of a country‑wide fugitive‑search operation. The coordinated effort resulted in the arrest of 1 952 individuals listed on arrest warrants or wanted notices, including 140 foreign nationals residing illegally in Poland.

Among the detainees were a 45‑year‑old man captured in a remote forest dwelling in the Bieszczady Mountains after fleeing abroad, and a 32‑year‑old male seized at his workplace in Bielsko‑Biała. The operation also secured weapons, cash and large quantities of narcotics, and led to the detention of suspects linked to serious crimes such as rape, organized‑crime groups, drug trafficking and human‑smuggling. Four individuals wanted under European arrest warrants and Interpol red notices were also taken into custody.

The action involved 24 503 police officers from all national units, including the Central Bureaus for Cybercrime and Criminal Investigation, and highlighted the effectiveness of inter‑agency cooperation in improving public safety.
