Polish police have arrested a 55-year-old Russian citizen in Świdnica on suspicion of espionage. The individual was detained during police patrols following a local football match after officers observed him photographing trains and railway infrastructure.

Forensic examination of seized electronic devices, including laptops and external drives, revealed hundreds of thousands of files. These files contain photographs of strategic transport facilities, communication hubs, and critical infrastructure, both within Poland and in other countries. Authorities stated that the documentation could potentially be used against national security.

The suspect is charged under Article 130, paragraph 1 of the Polish Penal Code for conducting activities on behalf of a foreign intelligence service. A local court has ordered the man to be held in custody for three months pending investigation. If convicted, the offense carries a minimum prison sentence of five years.

Tomasz Siemoniak, spokesperson for the coordinator of special services, noted that the arrest of a Russian national is a rarity, as intelligence services often prefer using foreign nationals as disposable agents. This incident follows a period of heightened tension, with Polish officials accusing Russia and Belarus of increasing hybrid threats and sabotage attempts against Polish infrastructure.
