Polish police detain ex-guard Jarosław K over alleged Russian spying after office intrusion

On 3 July 2026 two men entered the premises of a Ukrainian‑run office at the University of Economics in Poznań and demanded to inspect the business. They questioned a female employee about Ukraine, Stepan Bandera and the legality of the firm, filmed the encounter and were denied entry. The woman reported the incident, and police arrested both men, charging them with defamation.

One of the suspects was identified as Jarosław K., a former soldier of the 12th Greater Poland Territorial Defence Brigade. He had been detained in March by the Internal Security Agency (ABW) on suspicion of espionage for Russia. Prosecutors said the current investigation stems from material supplied by the Military Counter‑Intelligence Service. A court rejected a request for pre‑trial detention, imposing police monitoring, confiscating his passport and imposing a travel ban. He may face charges under article 130 § 3 of the criminal code for readiness to act for a foreign intelligence service.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about Russian espionage activities in Poland and the protection of foreign‑owned businesses.
