Polish police capture nearly 2,000 wanted individuals in nationwide sweep

On 8‑9 June 2026 the Polish National Police, coordinated by the Criminal Office of the Police Headquarters and supported by the Border Guard, launched a country‑wide operation to arrest people subject to arrest warrants, European warrants and illegal‑migration orders. Approximately 24,503 police officers and 650 border‑guard personnel took part, targeting locations across the country.

The operation resulted in the detention of 1,952 individuals, including 44 persons wanted under Polish arrest warrants and 224 people identified in the Silesian region. Among those arrested were 169 foreign nationals – mainly 117 citizens of Ukraine, as well as individuals from Georgia, Belarus, Moldova, Russia and other states. Authorities also seized large quantities of illicit drugs (marijuana, methamphetamine, cocaine, MDMA), weapons such as machetes, batons and knives, and cash totaling about 12 000 zł.

Immigration checks were carried out in parallel, with more than 1 200 controls leading to the identification of over 500 Ukrainian citizens, 170 Colombians and 80 Georgians. About 140 people were found to be residing illegally, and close to 90 were ordered to leave Poland. In a related border incident, police in the Sejny district apprehended 21 migrants (Sudan, Morocco, Ethiopia) who had crossed the Polish‑Lithuanian border and transferred them to the Border Guard for readmission to Lithuania.
