Polish police seize nearly 8 tonnes of illicit tobacco in Łódź region
Polish law‑enforcement agencies, including the Central Bureau of Investigation of the Police (CBŚP) and the Łódź Customs and Tax Service, dismantled an illegal tobacco factory on a private property in the Łódź voivodeship. Officers recovered a complete production line, more than 3.9 tonnes of ready‑to‑smoke tobacco and over 4 tonnes of tobacco leaf, with an estimated market value exceeding 4 million złoty. Authorities say the illicit operation could have deprived the state treasury of nearly 10 million złoty in unpaid taxes. Three individuals were arrested on the spot and charged with tax offences and illegal manufacture of tobacco products, facing up to seven years in prison. The investigation is being overseen by the district prosecutor in Bełchatów.
