Polish police intervene in weekend assaults and rescue in Cieszyn and Czarny Dunajec

During the weekend of 24‑25 June 2026, off‑duty police officers in southern Poland intervened in several incidents. In Cieszyn, sergeant Łukasz Machej, who was off duty, stopped a 46‑year‑old woman who became aggressive when denied alcohol, assaulted a shop employee and the officer, and was later detained while intoxicated. At the same time, officer Kamil Harwot, also off duty, pursued and restrained a 67‑year‑old driver who fled a road collision; the driver tested over 1.5‰ alcohol and faced charges for driving while intoxicated.

In the neighbouring gmina of Czarny Dunajec, night‑patrolling officers noticed a illegally parked vehicle on a bus stop island and discovered a 54‑year‑old man unconscious inside. The officers provided immediate first aid, called an ambulance, and the man regained consciousness before hospital transport to Nowy Targ for further treatment. Both episodes illustrate the readiness of Polish police to act beyond regular duty hours to protect public safety.
