Polish police launch holiday road‑death map and intensified traffic patrols

The Polish National Police have released the eighth edition of the "Fatal Road Accidents – Summer 2026" interactive map, showing the location, number of victims and type of participants for each fatal crash. The map is updated daily, displayed on the police website, social media and on more than 20,000 screens operated by Screen Network across the country.

From Friday, police units will increase patrols on main highways and routes to popular tourist destinations. Officers will focus on speeding, unsafe overtaking, failure to yield, mobile‑phone use and driving under the influence. Data from the 2025 summer period show 8,566 accidents (41 % of the year’s total), with August alone accounting for 189 deaths and 2,657 injuries.

The campaign also includes special checks of buses carrying children, verifying technical condition, equipment, driver licences, sobriety and overall fitness. Transport experts warned that the rise in scooters, bicycles and motorcycles during holidays adds further risk, urging all road users to exercise greater caution.
