Polish police use drones to enforce STOP sign compliance

The Polish police are conducting regular checks at intersections and railway crossings marked with the STOP sign (B‑20) using high‑altitude drones. Video recordings from the drones identify vehicles that fail to come to a complete stop before the line, allowing officers to issue fines of up to 300 zlotys and assign demerit points according to the violation.

In parallel, traffic police routinely stop drivers for routine road checks. Officers must identify themselves, state their rank, and give a clear reason for the stop. Checks may include verification of documents, breath‑alcohol tests, inspection of vehicle equipment such as warning triangles and fire extinguishers, and, when justified, searches of the vehicle. Drivers are advised to cooperate without disputing the officer’s authority.
