Polish Poultry Industry Calls for EU Origin Labelling Amid Rising Imports

Poland remains the European Union’s largest producer of poultry meat and the world’s third‑largest exporter. The sector is confronting growing imports from outside the EU, animal disease outbreaks and new regulatory pressures. Industry representatives, led by Dariusz Goszczyński, president of the National Poultry Council‑Chamber of Commerce, are urging the European Commission to introduce protective measures, including mandatory country‑of‑origin labeling for meat and processed products.

Goszczyński notes that over the past two decades Polish poultry production has tripled and export volumes have increased tenfold. According to the Institute of Agricultural Economics and Food Economy, production reached about 3.23 million t in 2025, while EU data show that from 2022‑2026 Poland produced a total of 20.1 million t, the highest among member states. Export value between January and April 2026 was €2.179 billion, representing 51 % of Poland’s total meat‑product export value. The industry also seeks safeguards against further market pressure linked to Ukraine’s EU accession.
