Polish public backs crypto ban as scandals rise

A survey commissioned by Virtual Poland and conducted by the Ariadna research panel between 15‑18 May 2026 found that 33 % of respondents support a total ban on owning and trading cryptocurrencies, while 27 % oppose it and 40 % remain undecided. The level of support follows a series of scandals involving the Zondacrypto exchange, including liquidity problems, alleged fraud and money‑laundering investigations launched by the Katowice Regional Prosecutor's Office on 17 April, as well as the disappearance of the exchange’s founder Sylwester Suszek.

On 11 May, lawmakers from the ruling PiS party submitted a draft bill to the Sejm that would prohibit all crypto‑asset activities in Poland. The poll, which interviewed 1 090 adult Poles using the CAWI method, recorded 18 % of respondents ‘strongly supporting’ the ban and 15 % ‘somewhat supporting’ it, versus 12 % ‘strongly opposing’ and 15 % ‘somewhat opposing’ the measure.
