Polish railway upgrades slated for 2026‑2028 across Wałcz station and line 97

Poland’s state railway operator PKP S.A. has signed a contract with ARCHMO Moldzyński Pracownia Projektowa to prepare full design documentation for a comprehensive renovation of the historic Wałcz railway station, originally built in 1903. Construction is planned to begin in the second half of 2027 and finish by the end of 2028. The project will restore the building’s historic façade, replace roof structures, install modern safety and monitoring systems, and add accessibility features for people with disabilities, seniors and families with children, along with new public spaces, bike shelters and parking.

Separately, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe is modernising line 97 between Żywiec and Sucha Beskidzka. The 520 million‑złotys investment, funded by the National Reconstruction Plan, covers refurbishment of more than 100 engineering structures, a new tunnel in Lachowice, ten new platforms and upgraded road‑rail crossings. Technical hand‑overs are scheduled for autumn 2026, allowing passenger services to resume in mid‑December 2026, shortening travel times by up to half an hour and improving comfort and safety on the historic Lviv‑Vienna corridor.
