Polish rapeseed and cherry markets see sharp price drops amid low yields
Polish rapeseed harvests this year have been reported as the lowest in decades, with average yields often falling below 2 t/ha and some fields barely reaching 1 t/ha. Low oil content (around 38‑42 %) and high contamination further reduced quality, prompting additional deductions for oil, impurities and moisture. As a result, rapeseed prices on Saturday fell hour by hour, dropping from about 2 400 zł per tonne in the morning to roughly 2 380 zł by midday.
At the same time, cherry prices have also slipped. The price for frozen cherries fell from above 6.20 zł/kg to a range of 5.30‑5.70 zł/kg, a decline of roughly 16 % compared with the previous year. Seasonal factors and lower starting rates this season contributed to the reduction, while fresh‑market cherry prices in some locales remain higher, ranging from 8‑13 zł/kg.
Both commodity price declines add financial pressure to Polish farmers, who face reduced revenue from lower yields and market rates.
