Polish right-wing factions clash over Sejm leadership and presidential influence

Internal rivalries within the Polish right wing are intensifying following the emergence of Mateusz Morawiecki’s Rozwoju Plus group, which is creating friction with Jarosław Kaczyński’s Law and Justice (PiS) party.

A key point of contention is the election of Marcin Horała as Vice-Marshal of the Sejm. Although Horała is associated with Morawiecki, his victory was secured through significant support from opposition groups, including Civic Coalition, PSL, and the Left, while PiS and Konfederacja voted against him.

These political shifts are linked to broader ambitions regarding the 2027 presidential election. Reports suggest that the growing influence of Morawiecki’s associates and their proximity to President Karol Nawrocki have caused concern within PiS, as the party fears being marginalized by the Presidential Palace in upcoming electoral cycles.
