Polish ex-Justice Minister Ziobro faces Sejm move to lift immunity

The Sejm’s Committee on Rules, Parliamentary Affairs and Immunity has recommended that parliamentary immunity be removed from former justice minister Zbigniew Ziobro. The recommendation follows a private criminal complaint filed by national prosecutor Dariusz Korneluk, who alleges Ziobro defamed him during a press conference in December 2025, calling him a “party operative” and accusing him of directing prosecutions to hide alleged thefts. Korneluk’s complaint demands a public apology, a payment of 30 000 zł to the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, and a suspended one‑year prison sentence. Ziobro, who has been residing in the United States since May 2026, is expected to have the committee’s proposal forwarded to the full Sejm for a vote, after which a criminal trial could proceed if the parliament approves the lift of his immunity.
