Polish Sejm lifts immunity of former justice minister Zbigniew Ziobro

The Polish Sejm voted 238‑191 to lift the parliamentary immunity of former justice minister Zbigniew Ziobro. The decision follows a private indictment filed by public‑service journalist Dorota Wysocka‑Schnepf, who alleges Ziobro defamed her with remarks made during a Pegasus committee hearing in September 2025. Ziobro said the media were “even worse with her” and linked her surname to a family history of sentencing a Polish soldier to life imprisonment, comments the journalist’s representative described as potentially humiliating and damaging to her professional trust.

The Sejm’s ruling came after a parliamentary committee recommended removal of immunity on May 13. Ziobro, currently abroad in the United States after previously staying in Hungary, remains a suspect in a separate investigation into the Justice Fund. The immunity lift enables legal proceedings to proceed against him.
