Polish singer Doda draws criticism for remarks on Ukraine and arts funding dispute

Polish pop star Doda ignited a media firestorm after commenting on Polish‑Ukrainian relations, describing Ukrainians as “ungrateful”. Journalist Karolina Korwin Piotrowska said Doda is fully aware of the impact of her words, comparing her media strategy to that of Donald Trump and Nicki Minaj and accusing her of deliberately provoking controversy.

The controversy deepened when Doda responded to musician Konrad Skolimowski’s harsh criticism of a Ministry of Culture proposal to financially support artists. Doda condemned Skolimowski’s language as hateful and claimed he was using his fanbase to attack the artistic community, while arguing that the funding debate should address the needs of a wide range of creators, not just a privileged few.
