Polish supermarkets source fish from domestic farms and South American imports

The Biedronka retail chain sells a variety of fish—including salmon, cod, mintaj, mackerel, herring and trout—sourced not only from overseas suppliers but also from Polish fisheries and controlled aquaculture. Products bearing the MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) label indicate that they come from responsibly managed stocks, allowing consumers to support sustainable fishing practices.

Another fish gaining visibility in Polish stores is the selene, also known as womer, a flattened Atlantic species imported from South America. It entered the market mainly through Ukrainian‑run shops and Eastern‑European food outlets, offered both smoked and salted, and typically sells for around 90 zł per kilogram.
