Poland closes several water venues over safety concerns

In Ostrołęka, the city’s newly renovated water playground in the municipal park remains non‑operational. The municipal spokesperson Katarzyna Ogniewska said the installation is under a warranty period and repairs have been ordered after winter‑season damage, with the ride to be reopened once the work is completed.

The Gubałówka swimming complex in southern Poland was shut indefinitely after laboratory tests detected the bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa in the water. Management cited health and safety reasons and is carrying out water‑treatment measures before reopening.

Along the Baltic coast, health authorities have repeatedly raised red flags at several bathing sites in the Gdynia‑Śródmieście area because of cyanobacteria (sinice) blooms. The closures affect one beach in Gdynia while other sites in the Pomeranian and West‑Pomeranian regions remain open and safe for swimming. Officials warn that contact with cyanobacteria‑contaminated water can cause skin irritation, eye inflammation, and gastrointestinal symptoms, and they advise the public to obey the red‑flag bans.

All agencies say they will monitor water quality and announce reopening dates once safety standards are met.
