Polish Tax Office and CERT Alert Sellers on Online Marketplace Risks

Polish tax authorities have begun using reports from online platforms such as Allegro, OLX and Vinted, transmitted under the EU DAC7 directive, to identify individuals who sell goods or services regularly. Receivers of the reports are being sent notices that may reclassify their activity as a business, requiring PIT tax payments, possible VAT obligations, fines and social‑security contributions. The tax office warns that even occasional sellers who exceed the quarterly income threshold of 10 813.50 zł must register with the CEIDG.

Separately, CERT Orange Polska has issued a fresh warning about a surge of scams targeting users of OLX, Allegro Lokalnie and similar classified‑ad sites. Fraudsters quickly contact sellers after a listing is posted, shift the conversation to messengers like WhatsApp, and use fake payment confirmations and phishing links that mimic bank portals. The warning advises sellers to keep all communication on the platform, verify URLs and never provide banking credentials.

Both alerts underscore heightened scrutiny of online marketplace activity in Poland and urge sellers to comply with tax regulations and to protect themselves from social‑engineering fraud.
