Polish towns Ciechanów and Bydgoszcz face legal battles over new housing block projects

In Ciechanów, residents and the environmental group “Miej Kulturę, Chroń Naturę” are challenging a decision that permits the construction of ten residential blocks on the Krubińskie wetlands. The developers, Społeczna Inicjatywa Mieszkaniowa Północne Mazowsze, have reduced the project after talks with the Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection, leaving more than two hectares of wetlands untouched. The opponents have appealed to the Samorządowe Kolegium Odwoławcze and warn that the case could move to an administrative court if the appeal fails.

In Bydgoszcz, the planned development near the Aeroklub Bydgoski on Górzyskowo has raised concerns among local residents about building height and potential loss of property value. The city’s Urban Planning Office, headed by Grzegorz Rosa, says the project complies with the local zoning plan, allowing buildings up to 10 metres, and that the height does not exceed limits for air‑traffic obstacles. Residents were told they could seek compensation if the new blocks lower the value of their homes, and the city emphasized that additional green space will be created as part of the plan.
