Polish towns deploy photo traps and new segregation rules to curb illegal waste dumping

Municipalities such as Brwinów, Krasne and Sławków have installed camera‑based “photo‑traps” to record people who throw prohibited waste into public bins. The devices aim to identify offenders who discard household rubbish, construction debris, furniture or large bags in street‑side containers meant only for small public‑area waste. Recordings can be handed to police; violations may be fined at least 500 zł under article 145 of the Polish Penal Code.

At the same time, several gminas have introduced updated segregation schemes. Purple bags or containers for textiles are now collected quarterly in places like Konstancin‑Jeziorna. Bio‑waste collection rules vary, with new brown bins required in some areas and allowances for on‑site composting. New timing rules for bulky items and e‑waste require placement no earlier than 24 hours before collection and before 7 a.m. on the pickup day. These measures aim to reduce illegal dumping and improve recycling rates.
