Polish towns launch new household aid programmes for heating upgrades and rent arrears

The Brzeszcze municipality in southern Poland will begin accepting applications on 16 April 2026 for subsidies of up to 4,500 zł to replace heating systems with condensate gas, oil, biomass boilers, heat pumps or district‑heat connections. The funding may be halted after 29 May 2026 if the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) is not fully implemented.

In the north‑west town of Złocieniec, residents who owe more than 2,000 zł in rent can reduce their debt by performing municipal work. Each hour of agreed‑upon cleaning, gardening or minor repairs lowers the arrears by 50 zł. The voluntary programme aims to cut eviction numbers, lower enforcement costs and reintegrate people who struggle to find regular employment.
