Polish towns Racibórz and Częstochowa expand waste management programs

Deputy Mayor Małgorzata Rudnicka‑Głowińska represented Racibórz at the 6th National Conference “Waste in the Municipality 2026” in Kielce (June 10‑12). Delegates discussed rising costs of waste systems, upcoming deposit schemes, recycling targets and new technologies such as methane‑fermentation treatment of biowaste at the Promnik plant, which generates electricity and heat.

The Częstochowa Municipal Services Centre is deploying mobile collection points for hazardous household waste, including expired medicines, medical sharps, batteries, fluorescent lamps, mercury lamps, paints, solvents, pesticides, used oils and lubricants. The schedule lists specific streets and time windows for June 13, 20 and 27, with further collections planned for September and December. Participants are instructed to seal and label chemicals and to use separate facilities for tires and gas cylinders.

Both initiatives aim to lower environmental risks, improve recycling rates and help local authorities meet national and EU waste‑handling regulations.
