Polish village energy‑efficiency upgrades cut heating bills up to 90%

European Union funds are being used to modernise rural community buildings in Poland. In the village of Rymań, a multi‑family block was fully retrofitted with thermal insulation, new windows, heat pumps, photovoltaic panels and a pellet‑fuel boiler, eliminating residents' investment costs and lowering heating and electricity bills by as much as 90 %. A similar renovation is under way in the Reczyce community centre of Gmina Domaniewice, where a new pellet boiler and LED lighting will cut operating expenses and free municipal funds for cultural activities. The pilot projects are financed through the EU Modernisation Fund and a forthcoming national programme worth 500 million zł, with the aim of extending the model to thousands of rural buildings across the country.

The upgrades are expected to reduce energy consumption, lower municipal budgets, and improve indoor comfort for seniors, children and local organisations, while also delivering environmental benefits through cleaner fuel combustion.
