Poland's ZUS urges parents to apply for 800 plus by June 30 and launches 300 zł ‘Dobry Start’ school aid

The Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) reminded parents that the deadline to submit electronic applications for the 800 plus child benefit for the 2026/2027 period is 30 June. Applications filed after this date will delay the start of payments until the month of submission and forfeit the June payout, except for newborns who have a three‑month window. To date, over 4 million applications covering more than 6 million children have been received.

From 1 July, ZUS also opened the annual “Dobry Start” programme, offering a one‑off 300 zł grant for school supplies to every child aged 7–20 (up to 24 for those with a disability), regardless of parental income. Applications must be submitted electronically via mZUS, PUE ZUS, Emp@tia or online banking and are accepted until 30 November. Requests received by the end of August will be paid by 30 September.

In addition, ZUS published guidance for students taking seasonal work, explaining that contracts of employment always require contributions, while contracts of commission (zlecenie) are exempt for students under 26 years only while fully enrolled. A “gap” between a licentiate exam and the start of master studies may trigger mandatory contributions. The institution also warned that contributions paid by certain company shareholders may be reclaimed and redirected to the state fund, affecting thousands of contributors.
