ZUS pension updates: New benefits for seniors and widows in Poland
Poland's social security system is undergoing several shifts. A government project aims to increase pensions for approximately 196,500 seniors who transitioned to early retirement under 2012 regulations. The Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) is expected to automatically recalculate these benefits starting April 2027, with potential increases of up to 552 PLN gross, though no retroactive payments for previous years are planned.
Other benefits include an honorarium for centenarians, which as of March 2026 stands at 6,938.92 PLN gross per month. This benefit is awarded automatically to Polish citizens who have reached 100 years of age.
Significant changes are also coming to the widow's pension. Currently, beneficiaries can combine a personal pension with 15% of a deceased spouse's family pension. From January 1, 2027, this secondary component is scheduled to increase to 25%, subject to a cap of three times the lowest statutory pension.
Additionally, ZUS has completed annual indexation of pension accounts and sub-accounts, with growth rates reaching approximately 9.81% for main accounts and 10.61% for sub-accounts.
