Political defections reported in Kaduna and Kwara states
Political shifts are occurring across Nigeria as members of major parties defect ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In Kaduna State, over 400 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Garun Kurama Ward of Lere Local Government Area. The move was supported by local leaders and an aide to Governor Uba Sani, who cited the governor’s performance in health, education, and security as a primary motivator for the transition.
In Kwara State, approximately 3,000 APC members from the Alanamu Ward in Ilorin West defected to the PDP. This group included supporters of Senator Saliu Mustapha. Additionally, the APC Chairman for the Baruten local government area, Hon. Sani Isa Adamu, resigned from the APC to join the PDP. Defectors in Kwara expressed confidence in the leadership of former Senate President Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki and stated their alignment follows Senator Mustapha’s own political shifts.
