Uttar Pradesh political parties intensify preparations for 2027 elections

Political activity is intensifying in Uttar Pradesh as major parties prepare for the 2027 Assembly elections. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made strategic leadership appointments, naming Vinod Tawde as in-charge for the state and Tarun Chugh as the in-charge for Gujarat to oversee organizational management and candidate selection.

In contrast, the Samajwadi Party (SP) has launched a grassroots campaign targeting booth-level expansion, instructing agents to add at least five new voters per booth to strengthen their network. SP leader Akhilesh Yadav has also made claims regarding the BJP’s seat-sharing strategy, alleging the ruling alliance plans to allocate 162 seats to its allies, including the RLD, Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party, Nishad Party, and Apna Dal.

These claims have drawn criticism from various quarters. Om Prakash Rajbhar, leader of the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party, accused Yadav of targeting the Kurmi community, while Muslim cleric Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi criticized Yadav for interfering in the BJP's internal seat-sharing discussions. Additionally, public friction between Congress and SP leaders in Saharanpur has provided the BJP with opportunities to question the stability of the INDIA bloc alliance.
