Political tensions rise in Uttar Pradesh between BJP and Samajwadi Party

Political friction has intensified in Uttar Pradesh as leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) exchange accusations ahead of future elections.

Om Prakash Rajbhar, a Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party chief, challenged Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav to nominate a Muslim candidate for Chief Minister in the 2027 Assembly elections. Rajbhar criticized the SP's outreach to jailed leader Azam Khan, suggesting the party's messaging is misleading given Khan's legal disqualification.

Separately, BJP leader and former MLA Sangeet Som accused Akhilesh Yadav of conspiring to have him killed, alleging a plan involving an individual named Titu Yadav. The Samajwadi Party has dismissed these claims as politically motivated. SP MLA Shahid Manzoor suggested that if Som feels threatened, he should request additional security from the current government, questioning whether the allegations are intended to increase Som's profile or secure a political ticket.
