Political tensions rise within Poland's governing coalition

Internal friction is escalating within Poland's ruling coalition following disagreements over legislative votes in the Sejm. Tensions between the Polish People's Party (PSL) and the Left intensified after the Left failed to support a PSL-backed bill regarding term limits, despite previously receiving PSL support for abortion-related legislation. In response, PSL leadership has threatened to reduce the competencies of deputy ministers from the Left in the ministries of agriculture, national defense, infrastructure, and energy.

Further instability is reported within the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy, where Minister Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz and Deputy Jan Szyszko have raised concerns regarding the government's internal culture. Szyszko alleged that individuals who do not align with the mainstream of the Civic Coalition (KO) face media attacks and aggressive treatment within the administration. Pełczyńska-Nałęcz also commented on a culture of pressure within the government, citing instances of threats regarding dismissal during policy disputes.
