Pollino National Park: Hiker rescued by helicopter after medical emergency
An emergency rescue operation was conducted in the Pollino National Park after a hiker experienced sudden chest pains while trekking near Orsomarso. The incident occurred in a remote area between Monte Palanuda and the Argentino river valley, approximately 1.5 kilometers upstream from the Pantagnoli spring.
Due to a lack of cellular coverage in the immediate vicinity, the group's guide had to climb to a higher elevation to establish a signal and alert emergency services. Once the alarm was raised, the Calabria Alpine and Speleological Rescue Station, supported by the Guardia di Finanza Alpine Rescue, mobilized to the site.
Because of the difficult terrain, the Salerno Fire Department deployed the ‘Drago’ helicopter to perform a winch rescue. The hiker was airlifted from the rugged location and transferred to the hospital in Belvedere Marittimo for medical treatment.
