Italian Minister Tommaso Foti Secures EU Approval for PNRR Revision
The European Commission has given its approval to Italy’s proposal to revise the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). Minister for European Affairs, the PNRR and Cohesion Policies Tommaso Foti said the green light will allow about €2.5 billion of strategic investments, including boosting the competitiveness of the production system, improving energy efficiency of homes, lowering household energy costs and strengthening water and rail infrastructure. The approval process will be finalised by the end of August with a Council decision.
In parallel, the national strategic hub Polo strategico nazionale has secured a €231 million financing package from a consortium of Italian banks – Intesa Sanpaolo, UniCredit, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, BPER and Banco BPM. The loan refinances existing debt and provides additional resources to expand the sovereign cloud infrastructure (PSN) that supports public administrations, building on €900 million of PNRR‑allocated funds. CEO Emanuele Iannetti highlighted the renewed confidence of the Italian financial system in the project.
