Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne pays compensations for renewable energy curtailment

Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE) is managing energy surpluses caused by the increasing number of solar and wind installations. To maintain balance in the national power system, the operator utilizes a mechanism known as non-market redispatching, which involves reducing production or temporarily shutting down renewable energy sources when supply exceeds demand.

In the first quarter of 2026, PSE paid 57.9 million PLN in compensations for these actions. This amount covers redispatching costs incurred during the 2023–2025 period. According to PSE spokesperson Maciej Wapiński, these compensations are funded through quality fees paid by consumers, though they represent a minimal portion of the total costs, accounting for approximately 0.13 percent (0.15 groszy/kWh) of the average rate in early 2026.
