Polygyros Municipality reports illegal dumping near Olympia Archaeological Site

The Municipality of Polygyros has reported new instances of illegal waste dumping in the riparian area of the Olympia River, located directly opposite the Olympia Archaeological Site. The discarded waste includes bulky items and hazardous empty pesticide containers in an area that had previously been fully cleared by municipal services.

Vasilis Fardogiannis, Deputy Mayor of Daily Life, expressed strong indignation regarding the recurring behavior, noting that the municipality spent 17,732 euros last year to restore the specific site. He stated that such actions constitute an insult to the environment, cultural heritage, and law-abiding citizens. The municipality has reminded residents to use official cleaning services for bulky items and to follow specific protocols for the disposal of pesticide packaging to prevent environmental and public health risks.
